What Is Election Day?
Election Day in the United States is held on the Tuesday following the first Monday in November. In 2026, it falls on November 3rd. This is when Americans vote for members of Congress, state officials, local representatives, and various ballot measures that affect their communities.
Voting is both a right and a responsibility in a democracy. It is how citizens have a say in who represents them and what policies are enacted. Elections determine the direction of communities, states, and the nation. Participating in elections—whether by voting, volunteering as a poll worker, or helping others register—strengthens democracy for everyone.
